Wexford. July 12th / 13th 2003.
The heats and finals of the lower and higher grade handicaps at Wexford Racecourse entertained and
thrilled the huge attendance over the two day racing festival, held in conjunction with the Carlsberg
Hooves 'N' Grooves Festival recently.
In the final of the 000-015 Handicap, favourite, Boldron Buddy, delighted his followers with a
comfortable victory having also won his qualifying heat. Next best in the final was Keith Graham
on-board Coalford Spirit, with "Maverick" back in third. The much anticipated Free For All lost some
of it's magic as "Stormy Reveller", "Hello Fella" and "Denton John Joe" were left at the start, but this
should not take from the deserving and convincing winner, Alec Patterson's champion mare "Ambro
Lobell", with the Kelleher Brother's "Tsar" in second and "The Blue Fox" back in third. The FFA Trot
saw the Clive Richardson owned "CR King Carpas" take the honours, from Jason Kane's "Tanno
Sensei", with "Goodman" back in third.
Day Two saw the High Grade Heats and Final being keenly contested, with the final turning into a
cliffhanger, as "Denton John Joe", availing of an opening on the rail, challenged the wide runner
"Stormy Reveller". This pair crossed the line locked together and it took a lengthy look at the camera
before "Denton John Joe" was declared the winner.
One of the most popular winners of the weekend, was Paul Kelly's "Lovely Launcher" in the Low
Grade Tot. This one made the early running but went off stride just before the 1/2 way stage and
fought back gamely to take the laurels, from "Idcomes" and "Mango Chutney".
Other winners over the weekend included: Difficult Decision, Willsboro Rose, Tano Sensei, Sabel
Sequel, Western Heartbeat, Stoneriggs Wizzard, Shuttle Buddy, Just in Time and Mark's Patriot.
