Goleen. February 8th 2009.
The Goleen meeting was abandoned after a slip up in the third race. Best wishes to Tim O'Leary and Celine O'Brien for a speedy recovery and a quick return to
racing. With no ambulances available, as they took the jockeys to hospital, there was no way the meeting could continue. Hard luck for the Goleen committee,
who had a large entry, a good attendance and a day that was almost balmy.
- Novice (Liam O'Driscoll Memorial Trophy) -
- DH between F. Hurley/S. Crowley's One Cool Dude (M. O'Reilly), 4/1 and K. Hurley/K. Santry/s Dyno Thunder (J. McSweeney), 1/2 fav; 3. Collette
Connolly's Maldini (Noreen McSweeney), 3/1. 5 ran, 2l. 4th, Hilton Sprinter, 5/1. NR Reflection
- Maldini led until about half-way, when Dyno took it up. Dude was always close enough to the leaders. On the run-in, he got ever closer. Not a bad result
for his first race - he looks like one to watch.
- Grade B (O'Meara's Bar, Goleen, Cup) - 1. Cahirtown Racing's Dilly's Dragon (J. McSweeney), 2/1; 2. T. Doyle's Kelly's Hero (Noreen McSweeney),
5/2; 3. J. Shanahan's Hilton Genius (M. O'Reilly), 1/1 fav. 8 ran, 8l, 6l. 4th, Magical Sole, 4/1. NR: Frisco Titan (who opted to go in Grade A)
- Dragon led from the start. Frisco Lady gave chase in second for a while but flattened. Then Kelly and Genius got closer, seemed a threat but the winner
opened up the distance on the run-in and with enough in hand, was eased before the line.
