ITHRF Horseowners / Association Meeting - Central Track - May 24th 2009
Decent enough races. Congrats to Patrick Shanahan on breaking his duck, and to Lucy Kelleher for making it 2 wins out of three rides. Well done, too, to
apprentice race winner, Shane Newman, who got a rug donated by O'Briens Saddlery. Commentator, John Sheehy, did an excellent job. Now, roll on Whit
Weekend.
- Maidens (Div. 1) - 1. K. O'Connell's Hurricane Henry (Owner), 1/1; 2. B. Barry's Supreme Hall (J. McSweeney), 1/2 fav; 3. Mary Forbes/Noreen
McSweeney's The Punisher (P. Forbes), 5/2. 4th, Sea Wave, 6/1. 6 ran, 4l, 2l. 2m.07secs
- Hall led until going into the last bend on the first circuit, when Henry took over. She simply did not seem to have any answer.
- Maidens (Div 2) - 1. M. O'Reilly's Cam's Rapido (T. O'Reilly), 4/5 fav; 2. L. McInerney's Glenarn Maria (J. McSweeney), 3/1; 3. Jenny Brickley's
Ringo Kid (F. Brickley), 1/1.4th, Tobber Star, 4/1. 6 ran, 2l, 1 1/2l. 2m.07secs
- Maria was first away but Kid challenged. However, he gave a slight skip but got back pacing. It looked good for him until Rapido went into overdrive on
the backstraight for the last time.
- Novice/Improver/Intermediate - 1. T. Enright/Amy O'Reilly's Ship's Cruiser (S. O'Reilly), 3/1; 2. J. Morgan's He Could Be That Chap (J.
McSweeney), 4/5 fav; 3. F. Brickley's Ringo Star (Owner), 1/1. 4th. Mr. Security, 6/1. 5 ran, 1/2l, 5l. 2m.05secs
- There were two false starts in this. In the real one, Cruiser went to the front after flagfall, with Chap in close pursuit. Mr. Security was unsettled in the early
stages. Star briefly headed Cruiser but went off stride.
- Class 000/005 - 1. J. Shanahan's Lakeview Lobell (Owner), 1/2 fav; 2. J. Burchill/D. O'Donoghue's Glenarn Harrier (D. Murphy), 2/1; 3. J. O'Donovan's
Bonkerstotallynuts (Owner), 5/1. 4th, What A Man, 4/1. 5 ran, 10l, 2l. 2m.04secs
- No doubt about this one. Bonkers was first to show but within a few strides Lobell had powered to the front, and by the looks of him, unpushed could have
won by as much again.
- Class 010/016 - 1. P. Hayes's Spanko's Boy (J. McSweeney), 4/5 fav; 2. J. Sheridan's Springhill Horizon (N. Stafford), 1/1; 3. K. Santry's Toys Art Us
(S. O'Reilly), 5/2. 4th, Briwyns Charvis, 3/1. NR: Stoneriggs Quail. 4 ran, 1L, 3l. 2m.03secs
- Boy was quick away but yielded to Horizon as they settled. But he looked as if he was only waiting to pounce, and when he did, recorded the fastest time
of the day.
- Class O17/080 (Preferential Handicap) - 1. S. O'Reilly's Earned Income (Owner), 2/5 fav; 2. F. Quill's Stoneriggs Wizard (T. Murphy), 2/1; 3. Patricia
Carey's Destiny's Dream (G. Carey), 6/1. 4th, Mr. Dow Jones. NR: Shotgun Willy, Zidane. 4 ran, 5l, 6l. 2m.04secs
- No suspense in this one, either. Income was in charge from flagfall, while Wiz never looked a particular threat.
- Grade A & B - Kelleher Bros/J. Power's Flashdance (Lucy Kelleher), 2/5 fav; 2. B. Newman's Casimir Fabio (Emma Kane), 4/1; 3. H. Bennett's
Stoneriggs Warrior (J. O'Reilly), 6/1. 4th, Matty O, 5/2. 5 ran, 1 1/2l, 2 1/2l. 2m.06secs
- Matty was first to show, but lost gait and quickly regained it. Thereafter, he was never really settled. Flash always looked confident. Fabio got on terms
briefly but Flash had a bit in reserve. Decent enough run from Warrior while Bon Camotion did not start and was trailing thereafter.
- Grade C & D - 1. F. Hurley/T. O'Reilly's Calm Louis (J. O'Reilly), 6/4; 2. Kelleher Bros/J. Power's The Fireball (Lucy Kelleher), 1/2 fav; 3. Quill Bros's
Sable Decision (S. Quill), 6/1.4th, Safely Arrived, 3/1. 4th, Harrier Decision, 2/1. 7 ran, 2l, 1 1/2l. 2m.06secs
- Louis led from flagfall. He saw off Scoot's Mischief and Safely Arrived. Fireball may have left his challenge late while Sable went well after she finally
exerted herself.
- Novice & E - 1. S. Buckley's Red Ambro (P. Shanahan), 4/5 fav; 2. Quill Bros's Cam's Decision (F. Quill jnr), 6/1; 3. K. O'Connell's Midnight Mover (J.
Goggin), 4/1. 5 ran, 3l, 1 1/2l. 2m.08secs
- Red took charge in what was a messy start, which left Sky Security and Harrier Decision effectively out of it. Cam's Decision gave chase throughout but
could not close on the winner, who loves to bowl along in front.
