Drimoleague. 26th Dec.2007

A really very good day's racing. Big crowd, mild enough weather and good contests. While there were no close finishes, the day supplied that other factor dear to the heart of sportspersons -- displays of superiority (think Kauto Star) -- and it was a nice note that the victory of that one was announced. Noreen McSweeney achieved a treble-- her second in two outings. Three horses doubled up on their Ballygurteen wins and a newcomer shook up the open ranks. We can hardly wait for Durrus.

A very good novice. Winner last time out, Swift Harrier, tried to make all, but beaten favourite that time, Teadies Best, had other ideas. After the turn, the winner took command. Favourite in this, Tony's Dream, needed the race -- don't discount her in future outings.

Also Ran: Gold Fella (D.McCarthy), Mister Hill (J.Sheehy)-- S.P. 1/3Fav, 8/1, 8/1, 8/1. Dist.: 12l, 1/2l.

Driven Storm took it up from Goldfella as they sorted themselves out. Scoot rounded the half-way turn in front and seemed to hold ascendancy until after the last turn. But Storm was in front after that and went on to win as he liked, to double up on his Ballygurteen win.

Kicking King Cam led them up but Hillside Security soon took it up. But Blue Campari was best away from the only turn, and went on to win comfortably.

Also Ran: Commander Matt (P.O'Brien) -- S.P. 4/5 Fav, 8/1, 4/1, 5/1. Dist.: 8l, 1l.

An interesting competition in which it looked like The Punisher was going to prevail. They started out; he came in ahead, and made a good turn. Jake seemed to be lagging. After the last turn, The Punisher was still in charge but Jake reeled him in on the straight to demonstrate his speedier turn of foot -- making it two out of two.

Current Supreme led until after the first turn (they started out) when Jet took over. After the next and last turn, Hilton Genius was in front and well clear, going on to win easily.

Also Ran: Coalford James (M.Duggan), Joe Moorsley (D.McCarthy) -- S.P. 4/5 Fav, 6/1, evens, 10/1. Dist.: 3l, 10l.

The Blue Fox led until heading for home. At the first turn, Joe Moorsley made a mistake and had to turn twice. Fidlin kept the Fox in his sights and took over heading for home. Newcomer, Magical Mancini, was slow at the mid-point turn, but made up ground, and began to narrow down the distance in the closing stages, while The Blue Fox seemed to run out of steam.
