Ballygurteen. 16th Dec.2007

A good start to the season. There was a big crowd and a good atmosphere. Nice to see our UK and Dub friends there. The only quibble would be that better stewarding regarding crowd control would not have gone amiss. Noreen McSweeney, with a three-timer, was jockey of the day, while Deirdre Goggin's Oreanna captured best-turned-out.

Viewing is not the best at this venue. Darkie led them out for this, which had only one turn. It seems Swift Harrier soon took it up and ultimately had the measure of the favourite, Teadies Best.

They started outside in this. Merrington JR led them in to the first turn, where he was somewhat reluctant. He finally turned but not before giving the idea to a few of the others. Lee Dale Star headed out in second behind him. JR was in charge until the run-in when Kelly's Hero powered up.

Also Ran: Cult Direct (D.McCarthy), Newtown Commander / A.Sweeney disqualified, no lead bag -- 8l, 2l. 4/5 fav; 6/1, 2/1

Newtown Commander led until after half-way with Tuck tracking him. Fidlin was waited with and came with strong run while Casey B arrived late on a course which was too short for him. Commander finished second but was disqualified for carrying no lead - incredible foolishness on the part of whoever was responsible.
