Colomane - January 14th 2007
- This was a well-attended meeting, with the weather proving decent enough. The feature, the Grade A, proved something of a non-event, as the winner
outclassed his rivals. The same happened in the Grade B. Novice and the Grade D were interesting enough contests. In the latter, Emperor Factor made it
four out of four and now goes up a step.Noreen McSweeney won 'jockey of the day', just shading it, by going down to third placings, over John Sheehy.
William's Rainbow won "best-turned-out" as he did at Durrus (and well-deserved both times) while "best dressed lady" went to Amy O'Reilly.
- Grade A (John & Chrissie Buckley Memorial Cup): 1. T. Murphy's Coalford Victory (D. Murphy), 2/5 fav; 2. J. Mycock's Fidlin (J. Sheehy), 2/1; 3.
Shanley Racing's Just Flash (Noreen McSweeney), 8/1. 6 ran, 7l, 6l.
- He's The Man made the early running, but Coalford Victory was waited with. Heading for the last turn, Coalford Victory took over while Fidlin got closer.
The winner got around in front and was simply cruising on the straight for home. Casey B finished 4th behind Just Flash.
- Grade B (Diarmuid & Kathleen Dineen Memorial Cup): 1. A. Jackson's Stoneriggs Wiseman (J. Sheehy), 2/5 fav; 2. Deasy/Hurley/Keohane''s Newtown
Commander (Noreen McSweeney), 3/1; 3. C. Galvin's Hilltop Tuck (P. O'Brien), 2/1. 5 ran, 8l, 10l.
- Stoneriggs Wiseman and Newtown Commander were away first, but the winner soon proved dominant. The grey ran his heart out, as usual, but could not
get on terms. I'mindoubletrouble ran well enough on his debut while it would have been expected that Hilltop Tuck would have got closer.
- Golden Mile (Joe O'Sullivan Perpetual Cup): 1. C.O'Sullivan's Travis (D. McCarthy), 2/1; 2. J. Shanahan's Sun Dancer (M. Duggan), 1/2 fav; 3. G.
Cooke's NT Marshal (Noreen McSweeney), 3/1. 4 ran, 4l, 3l.
- Sun Dancer was first to show; NT Marshal soon took over but when Travis challenged, it was obvious he was in charge and he went on to win easily.
- Grade C (Bantry Plant Hire Memorial Cup): 1. M. Herlihy's Do The Business (M. Duggan), 2/1; 2. G. Carey/Y. Jacob's Leterass de Perriers (D.
McCarthy), 6/4 fav; 3. Mary Forbes/Noreen McSweeney's Staly Princed (P. O'Brien), 3/1. 5 ran, 8l,nk
- Staly Princed led for most; Leterass de Perriers looked threatening.Do The Business kept in close touch and was rewarded with a well-deserved, and long
overdue win. The French trotter looked more the part in this while veteran, Staly Princed, ran his usual good race.
- Grade D (Denis F. Crowley Memorial Cup): 1. J. O'Brien's Emperor Factor (J. Sheehy), 4/5 fav; 2. G. Cooke's Dan's The Man (Noreen McSweeney),
3/1; 3. K. Daly's Dilly's Oasis (M. Duggan), 6/1. 7 ran, 1/2l, 8l.
- Emperor Factor led throughout. Dan's The Man put in a good performance on his seasonal debut. Casper Hill turned the first very badly and was soon
pulled-up.
- Grade E (Peter Cronin Perpetual Cup): 1. J. O'Mahony's Glan Teifi (Noreen McSweeney), 2/5 fav; 2. M. O'Brien's Commander Matt (P. O'Brien), 4/1;
3. F.O'Callaghan's Tina's Dream (P. Hill), 6/1. 8 ran, 2l, 6l.
- Glan Teifi led from the start, and was not hampered at the turn, as he had been the previous week. Commander Matt ran extremely well to finish a good
second, while Red Cam, slow, as usual to start, was a disappointing 4th.
- Novice (Michael Keohane Perpetual Cup): 1. L. O'Brien's Cam's Beauty (Noreen McSweeney).2/1; 2. B. Cronin's Chance Security (J. Sheehy), 6/4 fav;
3. D. McCarthy's Nana Moon (D. McCarthy) 2/1. 7 ran, nk, nk
- A good race in which it was hard to predict the outcome. Nana Moon was in control in the early stages but turning for home, Madam Del Sol was in front.
Cam's Beauty joined issue while Chance Security, always in touch, got closer. Madam Del Sol seemed to run out of steam in the closing stages, leaving it to
Cam's Beauty. A decent bunch of novices.
