Ballygurteen - December 17th 2006
- Grade A: 1. D. O'Donoghue/J. Burchill's The Blue Fox (M. Duggan), 1/2 fav; 2. P. Hill's Casey B (P. Hill), 8/1; 3. Shanley Racing Club's Just Flash
(Noreen McSweeney), 10/1. 6 ran, 12l, nk
- The Blue Fox dominated proceedings. Goldfella (eventual 4th) led them away with The Blue Fox in close touch. Casey B changed tactics and kept up with
them. At half-way, The Blue Fox turned in front and did so fluently. On the straight for home, those two toughies, Casey B and Just Flash (which had
looked out of it in the first half) battled it out for runner-up to the line. He's The Man (2/1 2nd fav.) never got into the hunt.
- Grade B: 1. G. Cooke's NT Marshal (A. McSweeney), 6/1; 2. Deasy/Hurley/Keohane's Newtown Commander (M. Duggan), 2/1; 3. C. O'Sullivan's
Travis (D. McCarthy), 7/4 fav. 5 ran, 1 1/2l, 7l.
- NT Marshal was impressive in this. Led almost from the off. His biggest danger seemed to be Newtown Commander, which gave chase. The grey tried
hard on the run-in but could not close. Travis got going late, it seemed, and left himself too much to do.
- Grade C: 1. Deirdre Goggin's Oreanna (Owner), 1/1 fav; 2. M.Herlihy's Do The Business (D. McCarthy), 2/1; 3. Mary Forbes/Noreen McSweeney's
Staly Princed (Noreen McSweeney), 4/1. 4 ran, 1 1/2l, 10l.
- Oreanna was waited with in this one. Do The Business came out of the first turn in front, while Direct Rocket ran out. Heading for home, Do The Business
was still in front but Oreanna got going in time to reel him in.
- Grade D: 1. J. O'Brien's Empor Factor (J. Sheehy), 4/5 fav; 2. G. Cooke's E.J.'s Design ( A. McSweeney), 4/1; 3. P. Kane's Casper Hill (J. O'Donovan),
1/1. 5 ran, 10l, 3l.
- Empor Factor tucked in behind leader, E.J.'s Design until the first turn. Duggan's Diplomat was pulled up here. When the winner challenged, E. J's Design
fought back but Empor Factor proved far too good. Not a bad run from Casper Hill.
- Grade E: 1. S. Buckley's Red Cam (Noreen McSweeney), 1/3 fav; 2. M. O'Brien's Commander Matt (P. O'Brien), 4/1; 3. J. O'Callaghan's Leeside Star
(J. Sheehy), 5/1. 6 ran, 3l, 10l.
- Red Cam handed Noreen McSweeney the 2nd leg of a double, making her "jockey of the day." Current Supreme was first to show but as they got serious,
Red Cam was the obvious winner. A good run by Commander Matt. Note: A mistake in the entries and racecard. The horse down as Celtic Harrier was
actually Celtic Dream, who finished 4th.
- Novice: 1. J. O'Mahony's Glan Teifi (Noreen McSweeney), 1/2 fav; 2. G. Cooke's Jesse James (J. O'Donovan), 2/1; 3. J. Manning's Blue Campari (D.
Goggin), 5/1. 7 ran, 10l, 8l.
- Glan Teifi completely outclassed his rivals, leading from the start. Jesse James shows much improvement from last year, while Blue Campari could be one to
watch. Darkie was the only non runner.
