Springhill Kate was first to show, but Atlantic soon took over. This one looked well set and it looked as if Famous Hill would be his biggest threat. That was until Sammy The Bull, reunited with his usual driver, got going, went into overdrive and did enough to make up for yesterday.

Cole's Decision led from the start, and well deserved his victory. He gave a slight skip heading for the last bend in the first lap but recovered quickly. Little Spike stayed in touch but it was only on the straight that the runners-up made their move. This was a race in which the punters couldn't make up their minds.

Zidane led them off with Newtown Commander keeping in touch. While the grey appeared to be closing at the half-way point, Stoneriggs Wizard came off the back in a drive that landed him in front. Going into the last, The Blue Fox got as far as fourth, but no further. Getting into this circuit, Home Ambrose was in second while Zidane was fading. Tom's The Man came to life and slotted into second behind the leader. Destiny's Dream made his move as they headed for the last bend; his third place, after his great victory yesterday, made him a hero. And fourth place, Home Ambrose, looks one to earmark for next year.

Something of a non-event, except for the young winning jockey, as Sable Decision took command after they sorted themselves out. Cole's Decision had already run (and won) and Meadowbranch Katie did not want to know. But talented Sable Decision, with her moods, is the best schoolmistress any novice jockey could have.

Also Ran: Newtown Commander (S.Quill) -- S.P. 6/1, 4/1, 5/2, 5/4 Fav. Dist.: 1/2l, 2l.
This was a good race. Coalford Wizard made most of the running. Newtown Commander, put to work once again, tried to get on terms in the early stages. Sharpe kept in touch while Travis seemed out of it. But he found an opening on the inside as they headed into the second half. Getting serious, Travis headed Coalford Wizard, but this one fought back. But Travis was not done with yet and regaining the lead on the straight, dug deep to hold on and hand his beginner jockey his first win.

Sugarkane Harrier was first to show but Back In Business soon took it up. Getting into things, Hilton's Genius went to the front, while E.J.'s Design was pulled up. Hilton's Genius gave a few skips; but was clearly superior. Back In Business shows plenty of promise while Howard's Lady was a bit disappointing.

This was a fairly decent race. Merrington JR took command at the start, but Lakeside Gold soon took over. Halfway round, Young Clemency was in charge, but What A Man had come off the back to follow him. On the back straight for the finaltime, What A Man took it up and Meadowbranch Katie also got moving. From second she tried to get on terms but the winner had loads in reserve. Hillside Security could not find daylight in time and her close third to Meadowbranch Katie was to her credit.

Meadowbranch Jake, likely favourite in the final, led until the line when he lost out in a photo to Stoneriggs Quail. Maverick never got in the hunt, while Peak's Pretender faded as they got serious. Sammy The Bull, lying handy, gave a slight skip on the back straight as they went for home, and on his serious challenge around the last bend, broke badly

A very good race. Coalford Wizard led for most of the first lap. Crown Direct and Wilsboro Rose followed him, while Destiny's Dream was settled in fourth. Crown Direct then went to the front. He led for all of the second lap.Just after the start of the last lap, Mr. Dow Jones went briefly off stride, while Coalford Wizard took over again as Crown Direct faded. getting into that circuit, Sharpe took command. But Destiny's Dream was ready to pounce, and did so while the erstwhile leaders faded. Heading for the last bend, Mr. Dow Jones started to motor, but left himself too much to do.
