Central Track. April 30th 2006.

Race 1. Maiden. 600 Euro. (360, 120, 72, 48)

Race Time: 2.07-- Start Time: 14:45

Also Ran: Blue Campari (J.Manning), Kelly's Hero (K.Sheehy), Cam's Matilda (J.McSweeney), Perfect Fella (P.O'Driscoll) -- S.P. 1/2 Fav, 4/1, 3/1, 3/1. Dist.: 2 1/2L, 6L.

As they sorted themselves out, Stan The Man went to the front, taking over from early leader, I'm Just Like Mum. At halfway, he was still in front, with Porterstown Jack in close pursuit. 2 from home, Just Like Mum was in the lead, with Hopping Rook in close contention. Heading for the last bend, Hopping Rook was in front, followed by IJLM and Porterstown Jack. On the run-in, Porterstown Jack got going and finished a creditable second, on what may have been his first real race.

Race 2. Maiden / Novice. 600 Euro. (360, 120, 72, 48)

Race Time: 2.11 -- Start Time: 15:10

Also Ran: Tina's Dream (J.Sheehy), Sands Cool Touch (P.Kelly), Gold Fella (M.Brickley) -- S.P. 1/2 Fav, 4/1, 8/1, 8/1. Dist.: 8L, Neck.

Springhill Kate stamped her authority on this race, and in no uncertain terms. Tina's Dream was briefly in charge; Goldfella challenged and came off stride; Frisco Lady was always in contention but at halfway Kate cruised to the front. From here on she was always dominant; Frisco Lady did not disgrace herself and was only collared for runner-up close home by Robert E Lee.

Race 3. Improver / Intermediate. 600 Euro. (360, 120, 72, 48)

Race Time: 2.08 -- Start Time: 15.30

Also Ran: Enorm Girl (J.O'Donovan), Thornton Missile (W.McInerney), Briwyns Jarvis (T.Murphy) -- S.P. 4/1, 3/1, 5/2 Fav. Dist.: 2L, 3L.

As they settled, Thornton Missile took over from Enorm Girl. As they got going in the second half, Damota Warrior went off stride as he began his challenge. With 2 to go, Newtown Perdition was in front, closely chased by Direct Glance. The last-named took over, and went on to win from Newtown Perdition. Damota Warrior rallied well to take third, while Only Still, which finished fourth, was lucky not to come a cropper from her loosened bandage.

Race 4. 000/003. 600 Euro. (360, 120, 72, 48)

Race Time: 2.07 -- Start Time: 16:00

Also Ran: Create Gold (T.Murphy), Do The Business (S.O'Reilly), Staley Princed (J.McSweeney)-- S.P. 1/1 Fav, 2/1, 6/1, 4/1. Dist.: 5L, 6L.

Creategold led until 2 from home, and Golden Knight kept in close touch. Yvonne's Princess was only waiting, and when given the word, forged clear. A decent performance here from Hillside Dream.

Race 5. 005/013. 600 Euro. (360, 120, 72, 48)

Race Time: 2.07 -- Start Time: 16.15

Also Ran: Stoneriggs Quail (M.Brickley), Coalford Cobra (S.O'Reilly), Rianne Princess (F.Brickley)-- S.P. 6/1, 2/1, 1/1 Fav, 4/1. Dist.: 4L, 3L.

This is a race on which I do feel like making much comment. Springhill Arrival certainly did her best but she was no match for Sable Decision; nor are many. Sable Decision is certainly capable of winning anything which she sets out to win.

Race 6. 015/046. Preferential Handicap. 600 Euro (360, 120, 72, 48)

Race Time: 2.08 -- Start Time: 16.30

Also Ran: Destiny's Dream (G.Carey), Henry Lee Sota (A.O'Reilly), Grey Foot (J.McSweeney) -- S.P. 1/2 Fav, 6/1, 5/1, 5/1. Dist.: 8L, 1 1/2L.

This, in many ways, was a foregone conclusion. Zidane went to the front when he wanted to. Cult Direct had led until after half-way and until 2 from home. The only surprise in this was that Disraeli Quest, which usually wins from the front, got back into the hunt to take runner-up.

Race 7. Laddie from Leap Saddle Derby 2006. 700 Euro. (Grade A/B/C/). 1 1/2 Miles

Race Time: 3.18 (1 1/2 miles) -- Start Time: 16.45

Also Ran: Matty O (J.McSweeney), The Blue Fox (J.Reid, 4/5 Fav) -- S.P. 6/4, 4/1, 6/1. Dist.: 5L, 10L.

The feature was something of a let-down. The Blue Fox, prohibitive favourite, underwent a pre-race trauma which should have seen him withdrawn. However, he lined out. Fidlin took it up from the start. Oreanna and Trackman were in early contention. Getting down to things, Oreanna seemed the biggest danger to Fidlin. Matty O was in close touch. After 2 laps of the three-circuit event, The Blue Fox was pulled up, never having taken a serious hand in the proceedings. At the business end, Just Flash got closer, and did not disgrace himself as runner-up.

Race 8 / Race 9 - Qualifiers
