Clonakilty Show Races - June 11th 2006
Posh Paddy was first away but Enorm Girl soon took over. Both Lakeside Gold and Perfect Fella disputed third behind the leading pair but never got closer.
Stoneriggs Quail led briefly in the early stages but then let Do The Business get on with it As they settled into the last (of three) laps, Stoneriggs Quail forged clear. Here, Free Spirit also made his move, while veteran, Run'N'Jump, performed well enough on his seasonal debut.
An interesting race, this one. At flagfall, Disraeli Quest, in pole position, looked certain to lead them off. Sun Dancer appeared to immediately dispose of his handicap and shot up on the inside to take over. Sun Dancer was followed by Disraeli Quest, and they continued like that, with The Orient Express briefly in third. Going into the last, Destiny's Dream had moved up to give chase to Sun Dancer, whose tremendous lead was diminishing. Heading for the last bend, the winner was only three parts of a length behind Sun Dancer and on the straight, surged to the front.
(Note: This race had a second start, as Meadowbranch Jake slipped up just after flagfall, and was subsequently withdrawn)
Bytheway, Matty O, and obviously, Meadowbranch Jake did not like the going. Matty O broke shortly after the start, and Bytheway took command. Better By Design kept in touch, and as they rounded the bent before embarking on the last circuit, was in front. Bytheway had gone off stride again but got back pacing, and stayed there for the rest of the race. A decent performance by Better By Design.
Coalford Jet led from start to finish. The shock here was that Fidlin hated the going, got into a challenging position several times but then went off stride. Greyfoot also broke in the early stages and never really got into the hunt. The Bugler also broke just after the start. Trackman also hated the going Creditable performances by The Bugler and Crown Direct.
