Thomas Grey made virtually all. Perfect Fella gave chase in second while Buddy was also in early contention. Getting serious, Hillside Security gradually made headway and did not disgrace herself as runner-up.

GT, looking more the part than he has thus far, tried to make all the running. He was followed by The Bugler, with Run'n'Jump nicely placed in third. Going into the last lap, Free Spirit had moved up into second. GT still looked in command on the stretch but Free Spirit was asked for one last effort and duly obliged.

Also Ran: Young Clemancy (J.McSweeney), Lana Haw Lea (S.Jennings), Meadowbranch Katie (A.O'Reilly) (Following accident, Lakeside Gold / S.Jennings Jnr were withdrawn for the re-run )-- S.P. 3/1, 1/2 Fav, 6/1, 6/1. Dist.: 3/4L, 7L.

This was a re-run, as in the first, as they were heading for the last lap, Young Clemency was in front, but Lakeside Gold came to grief (but was unhurt) and hampered Perfect Red. In the rerun, Perfect Red was first away, and was foot perfect. Behind her, Glan Teifi strove mightily throughout and at the business end, could not close. Lana Haw Lea was showing more like what should be her true form but broke as they were getting into the last circuit.

In this, veteran, Stoneriggs Quail showed why he has won so many races and why he is a former horse of the year. Cole's Decision was in command until they entered the last circuit, with Yvonne's Princess in close touch. Then the winner went to the front and Sable Decision find an opening on the inside. Yvonne's Princess then made her final effort but could not get on terms and she had enough to do to fend off Sable Decision.

Cult Direct was in charge until over half way. Disraeli Quest always looked poised to challenge while as they got serious, Destiny's Dream crept closer. When he took over, Disraeli Quest looked threatening, while Cult Direct faded. The Orient Express was third or fourth throughout and never improved on that, while Home At Last and Stoneriggs Vanity were never any danger.

Also Ran: Bytheway (J.McCarthy), Sun Dancer (R.Shanahan) - Following an accident, The Blue Fox / P.Hill were withdrawn for the re-run -- S.P. 4/1, 1/1 Fav, 5/1, 4/1. Dist.: Neck, 5L.

This was also a re-run, as in the first, favourite, The Blue Fox (subsequently withdrawn) and Sun Dancer slipped up just after flagfall. Crown Direct, looking truer to form, led until the closing stages. Coalford Jet kept in close touch, and was followed by Newtown Commander. They continued like that until the straight, when Coalford Jet took over. But Newtown Commander also made his move and collared Coalford Jet close home. Sharpe plugged on, never really improving his position; Sun Dancer went badly off stride and Bytheway never got into the hunt
