Dunmanway Races, 17th July 2005 - organised by 'West Cork Trotting'

Race 1. Maiden/Novice. 800 Euro.

Also Ran: Young Clemancy (K.O'Connell), Duggan's Jester (J.McCarthy), The Busman (M.Goggin), Merrington JR (S.O'Reilly) -- S.P. 4/1, 33/1, 4//5 fav.. Dist.: 7L, 5L.

Howard's Lady was in control throughout most, closely tracked by Thornton Missile. But Red Cam was waited with, crept closer and on the backstraight for the last time was in 2nd. From there he surged clear to win easily, while Yvonne's Princess, not having the clearest of runs, gave chase but could not close.

Race 2. Novice. 800 Euro.

Race Time: 2:34 -- Start Time: 14:55

Also Ran: Hilltop Beauty (P.O'Driscoll), Clodagh's Choice (Ml.Goggin), Tyler's Joy (T.Murphy), Current Supreme (B.Twomey) -- S.P. 2/1, 1/1 fav;, 2/1. Dist.: 2 1/2L, 1/2L.

Dreamland made nearly all. As they settled, Clodagh's Choice gained ascendancy briefly. Halfway round the second lap, Dreamland was back in control. Going into the last, Newtown Prediction looked threatening but could not get on terms.

Race 3. Improver/Intermediate. 800 Euro.

Race Time: 2:38 -- Start Time: 15:10

Also Ran: No Better Buachaill (W.McInerney), Brywins Jarvis (T.Murphy), Only Still (M.Goggin) -- S.P. 2/1, 8/1, 6/4 fav.. Dist.: 3/4L, 1/2L, 1/2L.

Fine Art led from the start. In the early stages, Enorm Girl and Brywins Jarvis challenged, as did Only Still, which went off stride. Going into the second lap, Sable Decision moved up into second, but she never could improve on that position.

Race 4. 3 Year Old Sire Stakes FFA. 1,500 Euro.

Race Time: 2:39 -- Start Time: 15:30

Also Ran: Hillside Security (P.Hill), Milly's Dream (D.Brickley), Jlaint Teify (M.Brickley) -- S.P. 4/5 fav, 4/1, 5/1. Dist.: 4L, 6L.

Tina's Dream (Perfect Dream/Tina's Pride) led them off, closely followed by Cam's Mathilda (Cam Security/Hi-Lo's Mathilda). Here, Jlaint Teify also showed briefly. On the straight going into the second circuit. Little Spike (Cam Security/Town End Deb) had taken over, and never looked in much danger thereafter.

Race 5. 000/002. 800 Euro.

Race Time: 3:06 -- Start Time: 15:45

Also Ran: Ayr Strike (M.Brickley), Do The Business (S.O'Reilly), Webbo (R.Cleary)-- S.P. 4/1, 6/1, 4/1. Ayr Strike 1/1 fav. Dist.: 10L, 6L, 5L.

Do The Business led until approaching halfway, when Southlands Merlin took over, and went on to win as he liked. Searchlight performed well in this.

Race 6. 005/012. 800 Euro.

Race Time: 3:04 -- Start Time: 16:00

Also Ran: Leckwith Gold (K.O'Connell), Stoneriggs Quail (D.Brickley), Trackman (D.O'Reilly) -- S.P. 3/1, 5/2, 3/1. Bachelor Boy 2/1 fav. Dist.: 6L, Neck, Neck.

Cole's Decision made the early running, only being briefly headed by Stoneriggs Quail. Getting serious, Coalford Cobra had moved up to mid field and on the backstraight for the final time, forged clear for an easy win.

Race 7. 014/025. 1,000 Euro.

Race Time: 3:02 -- Start Time: 16:15

Also Ran: Russian Bear (J.Manning Jnr), Tusk (M.Goggin), Disraeli Quest (A.Hamilton) -- S.P. 3/1, 3/1, 6/1. Disraeli Quest 4/5 fav. Dist.: 10L, Neck.

Abbacrombie took command at the off and only yielded to Disraeli Quest, going for 5-out-of-5 at the end of a complete circuit. Disraeli Quest stayed in front until the business end when Home At Last surged to the front. The late effort of Just Flash got him up in time to pip Difficult Decision for runner-up, but at this stage, the winner was in no danger.

Race 8. Preferential FFA, 025/080. 1,000 Euro.

Race Time: 2.52 -- Start Time: 16:30

Also Ran: Stoneriggs Vanity (Ml.Williamson), Leterass de Perrier (G.Carey), Ceirion She's Away (J.Sheehy), Coalford Jet (Dl.Murphy) -- S.P. 4/5 fav, 6/1, 3/1. Dist.: 15L, 1 1/2L.

As they settled, Fool's Gold took it up from Stoneriggs Vanity, with Coalford Jet in close touch. But The Blue Fox soon sprinted to the front and opened up an unassailable lead. Coalford Jet seemed to run out of steem with 2f to go, while Coalford Wizard and Leterass de Perrier offered a tardy challenge.
