From the Registrar's desk
As many of you know the last few months have been very difficult for me as I had to undergo Radiotherapy, which left me feeling pretty rough. Added to this I have to admit what I have several times been told - I take on too much to do.
A lot of time has been taken up with finalising the new Rule Book for the BHRC and which I hope will eventually become a universal rule Book for all harness racing authorities in Great Britain and Ireland.
The Stud Book has been stranded for some considerable time by the data being locked up in the BHRC computer. I am glad to say that we have unlocked the listings that we needed and are now able to start the final checking. In fact I have done the first few letters of the alphabet but it is a time consuming, though not highly skilled, job and I am therefore appealing for help. What I need is about a dozen volunteers who would take printed copies of one or two letters of the alphabet and check the entries that come under it on the three different databases, highlighting any left out from the main database and any discrepancies over smaller matters such as year of birth etc. If I get the volunteers you may soon see the Studbook but if no-one will help then ................. I am getting tired of a life of complete drudgery. I spend hours at this computer but never seem to catch up with my tail. So offers of help, please.
I would remind everyone that if you have not renewed your subscription it is now overdue. Please sort things out as it causes un-necessary work to have to continually chase people up when they want a registration or transfer. To those who have renewed and have sent their stamped addressed envelopes, thank you.
The last bunch of passports have been held up because we have had to modify the programme to take account of the new European and DEFRA regulations. This proved a little more complex than first envisaged but thanks to Brian Peachey's computer skills we have cracked it. I do appreciate how patient everyone has been and your patience will be soon rewarded.
If you are planning to enter anything for the Builth Wells Sale in October you must apply for registration NOW. No unregistered stock will be allowed through the Sale ring. We plan to have a representative on site to complete transfers of ownership there and then but be warned - EVERY HORSE WILL HAVE TO HAVE A PASSPORT.
One last reminder - It is the responsibility of the person whose name appears on the export certificate to register an imported horse. Please do not sell on a horse, either in GB or to go to Ireland without completing this formality.Best wishes
