Cork - Latest Results!

Central Track. August 24th 2009.

A very good day's racing. When you think of the rain overnight, and in the morning.... But the sun came out when it was wanted. Congrats to Mathew O'Reilly and James O'Driscoll who have now (I think) completed their apprentice course. A special well done to Tadhg O'Reilly, who bred both the winners of the sire stakes.

  • Maiden/Novice - 1. M. Herlihy/S.J. Jennings's Oakwood Diamond (K. Sheehy), 4/1; 2. S. Crowley's One Cool Dude (Noreen McSweeney), 4/1; 3. J. Shanahan's Lakeview Demolition (Owner), 4/5 fav. 4th, Peterstone JJ, 3/1. 7 ran, 6l, 2l. 2m.8secs
  • Tim's Surprise was the early leader but JJ soon took it up. JJ was no match for Diamond when he got going. Hilton Sprinter could have been a contender but lost gait. Dude left his challenge late.
  • Class 000/010 - 1. F. Brickley's Ringo Star (C. Brickley), 3/1; 2. K. O'Connell's Midnght Mover (Owner), 4/1. 3. R. Stellin's Stella's Star (P. Manning), 2/1.4th, Rocket Express, 5/2. 7 ran, nk, 1L. 2m.5secs
  • Stella held the call until the back straight for the last time. George's Hero (1/1 fav) looked ominous. Ringo Star was happy on the inside, in touch with the leaders. Mover went to the front in the later stages, but Ringo Star came with a telling late surge.
  • Class 012/026 - 1. J. Burchill/D. O'Donoghue's Glenarn Harrier (M. Goggin), 1/2 fav; 2. Quill Bros's Sable Decision (S. Quill), 3/1; 3. C. O'Sullivan's Travis (D. McCarthy), 3/1. 4th, Dilly's In Command, 6/1. NR Snatch 5 ran, 7l, 1 1/2l. 2m .5secs
  • Coalford Western set a cracking pace with Travis in pursuit. Travis held the lead briefly as they went into the backstraight for the last time. Going into the penultimate bend, Harrier got going and took it up. Sab le, as usual, only stirred herself at the last minute.
  • Novice/Improver/Intermediate - 1. Kelleher Bros/J. Power's Meadowbranch Demon (M. Kelleher), 2/5 fav; 2. J. O'Donovan's Mr. Security (Owner), 4/1; 3. F. Quill's Cam's Decision (M. O'Mahony), 4/1. 4th, Tinto Rosie, 6/1. NR Oakwood Regal 7 ran, 1L, 1/2l. 2m.5secs
  • There was a false start in this, and in the recall, Mr. Security was first away. He stayed like this, with Cam getting closer. Cam & Demon had a brief head-to-head with, finally, the winner only doing just enough to score.
  • Four-Year-Old Sire Stakes - 1. Duggan Bros's Sky Security (D. McCarthy), 3/1; 2. J. Shanahan/A. Hayes's Lakeview Lobelle (J. Shanahan), 2/5 fav; 3. B. Barry's Supreme Hall (Amy O'Reilly), 2/1. 4th, Hurricane Henri, 4/1 NR Ship's Cruiser. 4 ran, 1 1/2l, 3l. 2m.4secs
  • Sky led from the start. Hall was in close touch for over half-way. Lobelle tried but could not close and on the run-in, Sky had more than enough in hand.
  • Maidens - 1. J. O'Brien's Ithon Exchange (Owner), 5/1; 2. P. O'Driscoll's Yes Mister (Owner), 5/1; 3. L. Atherton's Faraway (M. Goggin), 4/1. 4th, Wellfield Speedster, 4/1. NR Roberta's Dream. 7 ran, 2 1/2l, 1/2l. 2m.8secs
  • Top Security was first to show but soon lost gait. She's Got It also broke shortly after. Heading for half-way, Exchange was in front. Faraway looked threatening, but yielded to a late challenge by Yes Mister, who looks a good sort.
  • Three-Year-Old Sire Stakes - 1. P. Carberry's Cam's Rapido (P. Kane jnr), 1/3 fav; 2. G. Carey's Shane's Baby (Owner), 3/1; 3. P. J. Cleary's Western Dreamer (M. O'Mahony), 3/1. 4 ran. 4th, Lakeview Demolition, 3/1. 4l, 4l. 2m.8secs
  • Rapido led from the start, and always looked in command. Shane's Baby tried hard but no go.
  • Preferred Free For All - 1. J. Burchill/D. O'Donoghue's Porterstown Jack (M. Goggin), 1/2 fav; 2. D. O'Reilly's Dragon's Glory (Owner), 5/1; 3. C. Hannan's Stoneriggs Warrior (Owner), 3/1. 4th, Coalford Torpedo, 3/1. 7 ran, 4l, 1L. 2m.3secs
  • Warrior tried to make all. Destiny's Dream was in close pursuit for much. At the business end, Jack moved up into second, and seemed to be making heavy weather of it. But that proved not to be the case, and forged effortlessly clear on the run-in. A good run by Dragon's Glory, his best yet so far.
